Focal hand dystonia, also known as musician's cramp or writer's cramp, is a movement disorder characterized by the loss of voluntary control over some movement patterns of the hand while using or working with a specific instrument which demands some degree of finger dexterity. For example, some musicians become unable to execute some finger and/or hand movements on their music instrument which were easily performed during the exercise of their music profession. In our center we are specialized in the prevention, the diagnosis and the treatment of this devastating disease. The collaboration established with the University of Konstanz has allowed to improve and to apply in our Institute Sensory Motor Retuning (SMR), the neurorehabilitation therapy that this German group has developed for the treatment of musician's focal dystonia. You
can find more information of this disease at the web site of the Konstaz-Terrassa
