Dystonia

Joaquim Subirats

Saxophonist and saxophone teacher

The first time I entered the Institute I was very scared. I don't know why, but I knew it would possibly be the last card I had left to play.

I had been going from doctor to doctor for two years without anyone diagnosing what was wrong with me. One day I came across an information document published by the Institute where I saw my problem clearly reflected. I had no doubt: I had dystonia.

I didn't know if I would ever be able to play the saxophone again or if I would be forced to give up one of the things I loved most: music. But luckily I ended up at the Institute, where I found a whole team of professionals specialized in art medicine who helped me (doctors, physiotherapists, psychologists, etc.). For the first time I didn't feel alone. There I met other musicians who were also going through the same thing as me and who had already started treatment some time ago.

The team was always by my side and helped me with their good advice. They made me believe in myself again.

Thanks to all of them, I regained my enthusiasm for music, the desire to play the instrument, and to feel like a musician again.

The center has a qualified and highly experienced medical team in the music field as well as the necessary resources and means to help musicians recover. Many musicians pass through the center every day. This means that they understand and know the problems that affect us better than other medical professionals.
