Vocal performance

Montserrat Torruella

Mezzo-soprano

In April 2012 I had surgery for a benign tumor in the parotid gland. Everything went very well and the recovery followed its process correctly. After three months, I saw that at the level of articulation (which is where it affected me to be able to sing), I was not progressing since the muscles were very tense and when it came to vocalizing and starting to sing it hurt.

The doctor who operated on me suggested I do some physiotherapy sessions at the Institute.

The visit with Dr. Rosset really encouraged me because I discovered that there was work to be done, and that therefore it was not normal for me to have become stagnant. This way I could move forward in returning to my professional life as normal.

He described to me with great care and delicacy the situation I was in, and informed me of the physiotherapy sessions I had to undergo. After three months, the result has been very satisfactory and I believe that with a few more sessions I will have completed my journey.

"I must also say that I felt very comfortable with the entire team, both for their proximity and for their unique professionalism."

The singer seeks, at the level of the face, a firm gesture, which gives the voice not only its amplification, but the certainty that each sound has its space. And to know these interior spaces, it is essential to sensitize its muscular envelope, its internal and external tissues. This can help us discover the appropriate gestures for the liberation of the voice, our great objective. With all this meticulous research I used to feel limited to rediscovering these sensations with comfort. It has been, with the work of physiotherapists, reconnecting with all of them that are basic for a happy emission of the voice.

A big thank you to the Institute, which I especially and sincerely recommend. My return to professional life, without this great help, would not have been possible in such a short space of time.
